Obituary for Wilma Dill

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved, Wilma Dill, on March 28, 2023. She was a devoted Christian who spent her life spreading love and kindness to those around her.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 31, 2023 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Tim Medley, Joe Merrell and Dr. W.D. Green officiating. Burial will follow in Childress Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.

Wilma, was born on October 2nd 1932 in Childress, Texas to Lizzie and Charlie Jones and lived a generous and fulfilling life. She was a dedicated wife to her late husband, Horace Dill, and a loving mother to her children Billy Dill, Sandra Keys and Beverly Smith as well as her son Stanley who passed as an infant.

In her early years Wilma Dill graduated as Valedictorian of her class in 1950 and married Horace Dill on January 27 1951.

Her greatest joy came from being a grandmother to her grandchildren, Wade, Jason, Justin, Jenica, Jessica, Jeremie and Jarod. She loved nothing more than spending time with them. When her grandchildren were playing football in High-school she would be found every Friday at lunch cooking a full meal for her favorite players. She taught all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren how to cook, fish, paint, and sew. She would spend the summers taking the grandchildren camping where their grandfather would show up for dinner and head back home. She had a special relationship with each of her grandchildren.

Wilma’s kitchen was always the gathering place for her family and if you walked in her door, you were family. She would gather her great grandchildren up for a afternoon of cooking and baking. She taught them how to fry chicken and make her famous Nanny Wilma’s homemade chocolate pie. It was a sight to see her great grandchildren so excited to cook a full meal for the entire family. Nanny was also known for her beautiful quilts. She was a active member of the FBC sewing circle, where not only taught others about sewing she shared her love for the Lord. She has made three generations of family members a handmade quilts and donated many quilts and blanket to the community.

In addition to her family, Wilma was deeply involved in her church community. She was a regular attendee of her beloved Sunday School Class. She was known for her gentle spirit and her ability to make everyone feel welcome. To know Wilma is to know love.

Wilmas's kind and loving nature touched the lives of everyone who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends, but her memory will live on through the values she has instilled in her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. We take comfort in knowing that she is now reunited with her beloved husband and that she is at peace in the loving arms of her Lord and Savior.
