Obituary for William "Jay" Hubanks

William James “Jay” Hubanks, age 92, passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2017. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at 10 AM at the Childress Church of Christ with Casey Timmons, officiating, and Dr. Mike Henderson and Trey Morgan, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Childress Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 PM on Monday, September 4, 2017 at Johnson Funeral Home. Jay was born on July 29, 1925 in Hollis, Oklahoma to George “Bud” William and Ivy Viola (Summers) Hubanks. He attended Hollis schools until he was drafted his junior year into the United States Navy, where he served from September 1943 until May 1946. After being discharged, he started college at Texas Wesleyan University and obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Business, and later received his Master’s degree from OSU. In 1945, he met, and then married Patsy Ruth Wrinkle on August 9, 1947. He managed Whites Auto Store for many years and then went on to be an educator at Hollis High School and Childress High School. He was also the Business Manager at CRMC. After his retirement, Jay established WJH properties. He was a devout Christian, and was an elder, deacon, teacher and part-time preacher at the Childress Church of Christ, where he was a longtime member. Jay was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Wanda Faye Harrell, and two great-grandchildren, Brynlee and Colton Williams. Survivors include his wife, Patsy Ruth Hubanks of Childress; four daughters, Vicki Locklear of Childress, Patti Appel and husband, Stan of Shattuck, OK, Sherree Coulson and husband, Randy of Texarkana, TX, and Sheila Timmons and husband, Morris of Childress; nine grandchildren, Angel, Kimberly, John, Casey, Tanya, Brianna, Cade, Kyle and Candace; twenty-one great-grandchildren; nephew and niece, Mark and Melanie Harrell; and numerous extended family and friends. Memorials may be made to the Childress Church of Christ, 210 2nd Street SE, Childress, TX 79201, or to the Westview Boys Home, 120 W. Broadway St., Hollis, OK 73550.
