Weldon ‘Bud’ Davis was a man who made people smile. Born June 11th 1933 to Elmer and Fannie Everson Davis, he spent his formative years in or near Quanah, Texas. He graduated from Quanah High School in 1950 at the age of 16. Bud married his sweetheart YuVonna Gregory in 1953. They were married 65 years. He will be most noted for his devotion to his wife, family, and the Lord. He exhibited that same loyalty to his country, community and in his career.
Bud served his country with top secret clearance in the Army when he was deployed to Germany from 1953 to 1955. Bud and YuVonna moved to Childress, Texas in 1963 where he served as a bible school teacher, a deacon for 19 years and as an elder for 21 years with the Childress Church of Christ. Bud enjoyed his fellowship with the Lion’s Club for 44 years.
Bud’s long career with West Texas Utilities Company lasted for 42 years. He retired from his position as District Distribution Superintendent in 1994. Bud truly loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He shared this love with many friends and family.
His greatest legacy will be the example he left his children and grandchildren as a man of faith, love and a servant of the God. Bud will be remembered by family, friends, fellow church members and co-workers as a man of strong convictions, integrity, and kindness. Bud made us smile. Bud passed from this life January 25th after a 10 year battle with progressive supranuclear palsy. He is survived by his wife, YuVonna; son, Greg Davis and his wife Sherri; daughter, Jana Davis Longbotham and husband Charlie. His three grandsons are Stephen Davis, Michael Davis and Joshua Sanders whose wife is Kaleitha Sanders. All are from Lubbock.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Zama Kern.
