Obituary for Wayne Proffitt

Funeral services for Wayne Carson Proffitt, 86, will be held Monday, June 1, 2020 at 2 p.m. at the Childress Church of Christ with Trey Morgan and Frank Stepp officiating. Burial will follow in Kirkland Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Sunday, May 31, 2020 from 7:30-8:30 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home.

He passed away May 29, 2020 in Granbury.

He was born October 17, 1933 in Kirkland to Adis Young Proffitt and Leona Spurlock Proffitt. He was a heavy equipment operator for the Texas Department of Transportation retiring after 35 years.

He liked to camp and fish and enjoyed taking his children on vacation, which usually involved camping. He enjoyed boating and vegetable gardening. He never owned anything but Fords. He loved his dogs and would cook for them, and only them. He was a gourmet chef for the dogs. Above all he loved his family, his kids, his grandkids and Edith. He took very good care of her. He also coached his kids and grandkids in Little League.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a great granddaughter, Khloe Heaven Dewberry.

Survivors inlcude his wife, Edith Proffitt, of Granbury; two daughters, Connie Proffitt and Jason Bailey and Nancy Proffitt-Neighbors both of Grandbury; a son, Danny Proffitt of Childress; grandchildren, Kenneth Neighbors, Kara Van Patten, Jeremy Proffitt, Heather Proffitt, Kayla Neighbors, Cameron Kohler, Myles Kohler and Kason Neighbors; two brothers, Richard Proffitt and wife, Helen and Robert Proffitt and three sisters, Anita Harris and husband, Bill; Barbara Harris and husband, Jim, and Judy Czeski and husband, Tommy.
