Memorial services for Vernon “Pappy” Moore, 67, will be held Saturday, August 28, 2021 at 2 p.m. at the Childress Church of Christ with Trey Morgan and Dr. W.D. Green officiating.
Vernon passed away August 23, 2021 in Dallas.
He was born May 3, 1954 to Kenneth Charles Moore and Evelene Ann Boen Moore in Rotan, Texas. He graduated Estelline High School in 1972 and married Connie Leigh Eddins on May 30, 1973.
He operated his own business as a propane dealer and worked for the T.L. Roach Jr. Unit in Childress.
Vernon was kind and selfless and lived life to the fullest. He loved kids and old people as well as sports, especially basketball and tennis. He and Pat Steed began the Childress Little Dribblers Basketball League and he was also instrumental in the construction of the girls softball field in Fair Park. He loved the Bobcats and Lady Cats and loved fishing with his grandchildren. He loved old cars and animals. Despite all that love, he was very competitive. He was extremely generous with a heart as big as Texas. But above all, he loved his family fiercely.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a nephew, Shawn Moore and a brother, Kenneth Moore.
Survivors include his wife, Connie; a son, Joshua Moore and wife, Christina; three daughters, Casey Botos and husband, Jason, Lori Moore and Shannon Hirschman and husband, Wes; grandchildren, Aaron Smithwick, Cora Lee Botos, Kennedy Smithwick, Jantz Botos, Luke Moore, Zachary Moore, Catherine Moore and Vernon “Gus” Bivins; a brother, Charlie Moore and wife, Cindy; two sisters, Vickie Ferguson and husband, Richard and Cindy Osborn and husband, Alfred; mother-in-law, Doris Thomas; lifelong friend, Glen Longbine along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Childress Bobcat Booster Club, or to the Childress Women’s League Backpack Program, PO Box 982, Childress, Texas, 79201.
