Obituary for Tommy Sims

Memorial services for Tommy Eugene Sims, 77, will be held Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at 1 p.m. at Westhill Community Church with Jeramy Miller officiating.
He passed away Friday, January 13, 2023 in Childress.
Tommy Eugene Sims was born December 23, 1945 in Childress to Jessie and Bessie Brady Sims.
Tommy was a well-known, influential man in the Childress Community but not for anything the world would think was influential, but for loving people, having compassion for his fellow man, and for reaching the lost and preaching the gospel. He was known by many names from Dad, Daddy, Papa and Uncle to Pastor, Brother, friend and counselor. He may not have had a grand title like Sir or King, but he was revered by others all the same. The reverence was not because he felt as though he was above anyone, quite the opposite. Reverence came from the love he gave. He loved, therefore he was loved. He was “Just One More, Lord.” More than he wanted anything else. Just one more soul, let me reach just one more soul for the kingdom.
From beginning of his ministry to his last breath, his heart for Jesus and his passion for spreading the gospel was evident. No matter the work at hand, be it delivering diesel, insurance or pest control; he did everything as unto the Lord for the glory of God the Father. The ministry was never a career for him, but a calling. He never felt that his ministry began and ended on Sundays in the pulpit. His ministry continued as he prayed in homes of customers, in the aisles of Walmart for anyone who asked, in passing in the parking lot. Not once did he minister for show but always as a humble, quiet servant for the glory of God alone. His desire was that people experienced the love of Jesus anytime he met with them. Dad lived his life according to Micah 6:8 He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Eva Lincycomb-Warren, sister Ada Philpott, sister Bessie Davenport, brother Dennis Sims, sister Mittie Lou Chandler, sister Maxine Murphy and brother James Sims.
Survivors include his wife Beverly Sims of Childress; a daughter Lana K. Waits and husband, John, of Lubbock; a daughter Connie G. Miller and husband, Jeramy, of Childress; a son Michael E. Sims and wife, Tara, of Lubbock; a sister Georgia Jones; a brother Leslie Sims; six grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
