Obituary for Tom Bailiff

Thomas Lee Bailiff, age 89, passed away on Monday, September 18, 2017. Funeral services will be at 2 PM on Saturday, September 30, 2017 in the Joe E. Jones Chapel in Childress Cemetery with Kerry Wood officiating. Burial will follow in Childress Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 PM on Friday, September 29, 2017 at Johnson Funeral Home. Tom was born on November 25, 1927 in Quanah to Thomas Charleston and Edith Irene (Sport) Bailiff. He graduated from Childress High School in 1945. He also served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean conflict. Tom graduated from Texas Tech in 1949. On October 7, 1950, he married Rue Wilson. Later, he joined his brother-in-law, Gordon Gravley, to co-own and operate Gordon’s Furniture in June of 1961. After his brother-in-law died suddenly in 1989, he ran the store until June 1995 when he sold it to the Lott family. He also was involved in the community, having been a member of Rotary Club, Lions Club, Masonic Lodge and the Greenbelt Water Authority. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Robert Alton Bailiff, and his wife, Rue. Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Foster and husband, Mark, of Rowlett; grandson, Tyler Foster of Rowlett; granddaughter Delaney Foster of Rowlett; two nephews, Jim Gravley of Allen, TX and Don Bagwell of Midland, TX; and two nieces, Kay Odiorne of Johnson City, TX, and Vicki Moutray of Carlsbad, NM.
