Obituary for Thomas Allen Madison

Thomas Allen Madison, 75, passed away February 8, 2023 in Amarillo. No services will be held.

He was born March 26, 1947 to W. Clyde Madison and Vivian Jones Madison.

Tom was the best husband, father and son. He took care of his wife’s and mother’s vehicles. He picked up his mom’s mail and did shopping for her. He called his mother daily. Tom was son Matthew’s biggest champion and included his many friends. He was so proud of Matthew when he received his MBA and Master of Science in Economics and Finance.

Matthew has fond memories of his father stating, “Dad was the rock of our family and at times could be a little stubborn, which was very apparent during his final days. He fought and continued to fight till he couldn't any more. His love was not only for our family, but his desire to help others was also apparent in his work with the WorkForce commission. From a very early age dad pushed me to always be the best and strive to achieve excellence. He taught me from a young age to have a good work ethic and to never be afraid to fail. From his support when I was 9 and had a serious leg injury that could have ended any athletic career to doing whatever it took to provide me all the opportunities to do what I loved and that was playing basketball. He sacrificed so much for me and our family to make sure we all were taken care of and were able to do the things we enjoyed. From him coaching me in basketball and baseball to me telling him I needed him to record my basketball games (to reduce his yelling which with his voice was very distinct) so we could review and work on areas I needed to improve on. All that coaching from him prepared me to take the next step and play at the collegiate level where during my 4 years at West Texas A&M he, my mom and grandparents only missed two games which was due to inclement weather and 15 hours away in Arkansas. Love you Dad. Will always be your Matthew J.”

Tom’s Uncle James and Aunt Doris came to most of Matthew’s home games at West Texas A&M. He was as proud of Matthew as Vivian was.

Tom married Kay Teague on February 26, 1972 and they were married for 51 years. He worked for Sears for 11 years, Berry Contracting/Bay Inc. for eight years but spent the majority of his career as the supervising manager for the Texas Workforce Commission in Childress for 23 years. After entering the nursing home he encouraged the aids and LVNs to take the next step in their education.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Vivian Jones Madison; his father, W. Clyde Madision; his grandparents Texie Pauline Simmons Jones and Elzie Thomas Jones and Allen Madison and Minnie Shaver Madison.
