Obituary for Thelma Gorley

Thelma Lucille Gorley, age 95, passed away on July 7, 2016, in Childress. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Monday, July 11, 2016 at the Church of Christ in Childress with Mr. Trey Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in the Childress Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6:00pm to 7:30pm on Sunday, July 10, 2016. Thelma was born on August 12, 1920 in Denton County, Texas to Ova Riley and Ila Lorene (Free) Austin. She grew up on a farm and pulled cotton alongside her brothers, usually working circles around them. She was a homemaker who loved to cook, sew, quilt, embroider and shop. She and her husband, Bill Gorley, enjoyed riding motorcycles together. She also enjoyed playing dominoes and 42 and going for walks. Thelma loved to take care of others, and was willing to give and sacrifice of herself if someone needed something. Above all else, her family was her pride and joy. She loved taking care of them and doing things for them. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bill Gorley; brothers Bennie, Virgil, Rayford and Billy Austin; daughter Barbara; granddaughter Bobbi Jo Gorley; and great-granddaughter Courtney Thompson. Survivors include: Daughter – Joyce McKeever and husband, Buford of Childress, TX Daughter – Judy McKeever and husband, Buddy of Childress, TX Daughter – Brenda Gorley of Childress, TX Daughter – Linda Gorley of Childress, TX Daughter – Lawana Howard and husband, David of Childress, TX Son – Joe Gorley and wife, Tammy of Quanah, TX 19 Grandchildren 31 Great Grandchildren 17 Great-Great Grandchildren Numerous Extended Family and Friends Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
