Obituary for Terry Dickens (Burns)

TERRY LYNN DICKENS (Terri), was born on February 14, 1957 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Eugene Jacobs and Pearl Ann Dalton. God called his angel home on Friday, January 24, 2020.

Services will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, February 8, 2020 at Calvary Baptist Church of Childress with Gaston Rivers officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Childress Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.

Terry was raised in Quanah, Texas. She spent most of her life in Childress, Texas. She was a graduate of Quanah High School in 1975. She attended nursing school at Clarendon College in 1980. She became a Licensed Vocational Nurse in 1981. Terry was a caretaker and a caregiver. She advocated and provided excellent care for all of her patients. Terry worked in several hospitals and nursing homes between Lubbock, TX and Childress, TX .

Terry began her walk with Christ at an early age. She served God with all of her heart and soul while witnessing to others. Her hobbies included serving God, speaking her testimonies to others and playing B.I.N.G.O. Terry had a testimony to be told.

Terry was preceded in death by her parents Eugene Jacobs and Pearl Dalton; ex-husband Randy Doresy, a brother Samuel K. Jacobs, a brother in-law Nathaniel Sheppard, an aunt Leola Johnson, cousins Rosa Donnell, and Karla Odhams

Terry leaves to treasure her precious memories, from eldest to youngest: Two daughters: Shatora Dawn Floyd and Nekeiaa D’Nae Dickens; Two brothers: Gene Burns (w. Connie Burns) of Amarillo, TX and James Burns of Baton Rouge Louisiana; Five sisters: Elizabeth Burns Carter (h. Carlton T. Carter) of Norman, OK, Joann Sheppard (h. Nathaniel Sheppard) of Borger, TX, Claudette Davis (h. Ronald Butler) of San Diego, CA, Rena Davis of Childress, TX, and Tammy Davis of Norman, OK; God-sister Patricia Paris (h. Victor Paris) of Fort Worth, TX; Step-brother William Davis of San Diego, CA. Two grandchildren Treyveon Mims and Key’ihra Mims of Fort Smith, AR; and ex-husband Robert Dean Dickens.

Nieces and Nephews from eldest to youngest: Bridgett Burns-McDowell (h. John McDowell), Latasha Harris, Shabron Burns, James Land, Carlton T. Carter II (w. Lisa Carter), Charlton L. Carter, Jeremiah Land, Jacob Land, Raven Land, Tamisha Cannon, Brent Davis, Chadrick Allen, Willie M. Davis III, Charles Arnold, Tinaia Sheppard, Eric Jacobs, Akeem Burns, Ralph Jones, and Alexia L. Sheppard. Additionally, Terry also had an abundance of great nieces, and great nephews.

Aunt’s from eldest to youngest: LuAnn Wherry of Wichita Falls, TX, and Laurel Jennings of Quanah, TX.

Terry also has a host of cousins, extended family and friends.
