Sylvia "Laverne" Portwood, age 84, died Thursday, December 13, 2012 in Amarillo. Services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, December 15, 2012 in Carey Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Wilson officiating . Burial will be in Childress Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Johnson Funeral Home on Friday, December 14, 2012, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM Laverne was born on September 22, 1928 in Decatur, to Roy Edward and Ommie Dale Jones Lewis. She married L.D. Portwood February 12, 1946 in Spearman. They were married 52 years before his death. Laverne was a wonderful Mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother. One of her greatest joys was to help raise all of her grandchildren. She was a great baker and cook. She was a Godly woman who enjoyed serving families in their time of sorrow. Laverne was loved by all who knew her. She was a very active member of Carey Baptist Church. Laverne was preceded in death by her Husband, 5 Sisters, 3 Brothers and 3 great grandsons. Survivors: 2 Daughters - Chris Ray and Husband Denzil, Childress, Carolyn Willis, Childress; 2 Sons - Robert Portwood and Wife Janice, Childress, Ronnie Portwood and Wife Angie, Childress; Sister - Molly Slape, Amarillo; Brother - Floyd Lewis, Elk City, OK; 13 Grandchildren - Jerry Foley and wife, Tammy; Angie Prater and husband, Kelly; Kevin Foley and wife, Mandy; Tonya Kroll; Tammy Imhof and husband, Cody; Kim Portwood; Dwayne McClery; Jeff McClery and wife, Delia; Tosha Fore and husband, Trent; Jorde Veld; Dylan Portwood; Lauren Portwood; Nathanael Portwood; Great GrandChildren - Tiffany, Jeremy, Jason, Keith, Josh, Austin, Blake, Beth, Colton, Ashleigh, JoHannah, Cade, Jancen, Kaleigh, Rachael, Erika, Madison, Brock, Luke, Erik, Christian, Billy, Brianna, Darian, Ethan, Hadlee; Great Great grandchildren - Jaden, Joseph, Jordan, Prissy, Kendalyn, Ethan, Keaton and Ian; Numerous nieces and nephews.
