Obituary for Shelly Lawrence

Shelly Ridens Lawrence, age 53, passed away on January 2, 2018. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 2:00PM at the First Baptist Church with Tommy Long officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 5, 2018 for 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Johnson Funeral Home. Shelly was born on February 3, 1963 in Port LaVaca, Texas to Horace and Nancy (Moses) Ridens. She was a 1981 graduate of Childress High School. She and James “Brett” Lawrence were married at her mother and dad’s house in Childress on July 5, 1987. Shelly loved the Lord. From a teenager right up until she passed, she loved writing poems and music about her savior and their relationship. She passed down her love of serving the Lord through music to her sons. Shelly was a talented artist and photographer. She could paint, sketch, crochet and sew. She loved to serve others. She tried to bless someone each day with whatever she had - cooking (she was a great cook), giving of her time, money or her home. Shelly raised many boys and girls who had no other place to go. Some stayed months, some years. Many call her “Momma” to this day and their children call her “Granna”. Shelly always said, “God gave me a 5 foot body because He knew I’d have a 10 foot attitude”. She loved to tell funny stories and to hear yours. Shelly laughed more in a week than most people would in a year. She was vivacious, active, bubbly and sweet. She was a beauty without and within. She valued hard work and loyalty to friends and family - she would drop whatever she was doing for someone in need. Shelly was preceded in death by her father Horace Ridens, stepfather Max Foster and brother Rex Ridens. Survivors include her husband Brett, 3 sons- Jason Lawrence of Stratford, Jacob Lawrence and wife Denise of Decatur, Jayton Lawrence and wife Megan of Stratford, Mother Nancy Foster of Childress, 3 brothers- Mark Foster and Jesse Braganza of Austin, Mat Foster and wife Kelly of Childress, Ray Ridens and wife Dondi of Childress. Shelly is also survived by 6 grandchildren; Renee, Jonathan, Gracelynn, Macie, Taden and Jacob Lawrence. Many nieces, nephews and adopted children. She loved them all with all she had.
