Obituary for Sam Vitela

Funeral services for Samuel Vitela Sr., 69, will be held Saturday, September 23, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Trinity Worship Center with Ronnie Shoffner officiating. Burial will follow in Childress Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Friday, September 22, 2023 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel from 5-7 p.m.
He passed away September 19, 2023 in Childress surrounded by loved ones.
He was born May 16, 1954 to Dorateo and Guadalupe Vitela in Raymondsville, Texas. He was one of 10 children.
Sam was a very well loved man in Childress. He worked for the City of Childress until his retirement in 2016. After that, he mowed lawns and was everyone’s handyman. Anything you needed fixed, he would try his best to do what he could, stranger or not. He was a huge fan and supporter of the Childress Bobcats football team and was a die hard fan of the Dallas Cowboys. He was a friend to all and loved telling jokes and stories.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and four sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Vitela, of Childress; daughter, Mary Ann Vitela, of Abilene; son, Samuel Vitela Jr. and wife, Ashlee, of Wichita Falls; daughter, Deborah Vitela, of Lubbock; stepson Craig Littleman and wife, Lauren, of White Deer; 16 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren and too many friends and adopted family to name.
