Russell "Gene" Statham, age 83, died Thursday, December 26, 2013 in Lubbock. Services will be at 2:00 PM Thursday, January 02, 2014 in First Baptist Church with Rev. Chad King officiating. Burial will be in Childress Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Johnson Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 01, 2014 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Russell Eugene Statham passed from this life on December 26. He was born June 20, 1930 in Mount Calm, Texas to Russell and Maurine Rogers Statham. In 1938, the family moved from Elk, Texas to Childress. He attended school at High Point and graduated from Childress High School in 1948. He served in the US Air Force after graduation, stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base, LA. He and Oleta Snider were married February 6, 1953 in Hollis, OK. He worked 33 years as a machinist for Burlington Northern. He had farmed all of his life and continued to do so after retiring from the railroad. When his health declined to where he could not drive a tractor, he and Oleta continued to run cattle. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ruben.
