Obituary for Ruby "Larmon" Writer

Ruby “Irene” (Larmon) Writer, age 97, passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 in Childress. Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at 10:30 AM in the First Baptist Church Chapel with Jim McCurley officiating. Burial will follow in Childress Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Irene was born on October 19, 1918 in Caddo, Oklahoma to Lewis Wesley and Callie Nebraska (Dill) Larmon. She was the fourth child, and the first daughter born to their family. Their family moved from Washington, OK to Childress in 1946. She met Benjamin “Ben” Franklin Writer at Reid-Scott Drug Store where they both worked, and they married on January 16, 1947 in Childress. Later he owned and operated Writer Time Service where they worked together. Irene worked at the Childress County Heritage Museum as a docent for 25 years until age 84, and many remember her for her work there. She and her husband were members of First Baptist Church. She was a homemaker, and loved to quilt, garden, embroider and sew. She also enjoyed socializing with her Sunday School class and friends. Above all else, she loved her family and spending time with them made her very happy. Irene was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, her husband in August 1958, and a son, Charles Larmon Writer in December 1947. Survivors include two daughters, Karen Kay Wofford and Pamela Martel Terry; five grandchildren, Kent Wofford, Landon Terry, Wade Wofford, Levi Terry and Luke Terry; ten great-grandchildren James and Raymond Wofford; Lance, Lawton and Lilly Terry; Austin, Logan and Averie Wofford; Leighton and Londyn Terry. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church in Childress or to the Childress County Heritage Museum.
