Rosalee Halford, age 101, passed away on July 7, 2016 in Childress. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at First United Methodist Church with Johnny Robertson officiating. Burial will follow in Childress Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 7 to 8 PM on Friday, July 8, 2016 at Johnson Funeral Home. Rosalee was born on December 7, 1914 in Blair, Oklahoma to James Lovel and Maud Belle (Stroud) Hunt. She and Buster Halford were married on August 10, 1930 in Hollis, Oklahoma. Rosalee was a strong woman with many gifts. She was a wonderful cook known for feeding anyone who came around, most often ending her home cooked meals with a homemade dessert. Her yard was one of the prettiest and most landscaped yards around. She also loved to garden, and was diligent about preparing her garden to grow corn, peas, tomatoes, squash, green beans and okra to freeze or can, always sharing with anyone in need. A talented seamstress, Rosalee made many clothes for her family, including sport coats and wedding dresses, and made potholders as gifts for friends and family. In her younger days, Rosalee and Buster would go square dancing, something she enjoyed even in her later years. Even though her dream of dancing with George Strait was never fulfilled, a smile would always cross her face when she was given the opportunity to dance and have fun. She was also a “42-playin’ lady”, but loved the competition. When she renewed her drivers license, at 95 years old, she only wanted to have one so she could prove that she could. Rosalee was a Christian woman who supported her church and it’s activities. Known as “Grandmomma Rosie” to her grandchildren, she loved her family with all her heart and they were her pride and joy. Rosalee was preceded in death by her parents, 14 siblings, two sons L.J. Halford and Clinton Halford, and three grandsons Roy Seal, Jay Blackburn and Steve Halford. Survivors include daughter Geraldine Seal Mitchell and husband, Dick of Childress; son Harold Halford and wife, Juanell of Childress; daughter Linda Blackburn and husband, Bob of Owasso, OK; daughter-in-law Charlotte Halford; 13 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 28 great-great-grandchildren. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church.
