Obituary for Roby "Bea" Adams

Roby Beatrice"Bea" Huddleston Adams, age 100, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2014. Graveside services will be at 4:00PM on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 in Childress Cemetery with Harold Moore officiating . Burial will be in Childress Cemetery . Bea was born in Estelline, Texas on August 20, 1913. Bea attended school in Estelline and kept up with her classmates and always looked forward to attending the reunions. Bea Huddleston and Ewell Adams were married December 13, 1931 in Hollis, Oklahoma. Beginning their married life during the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl days, the Adams had to work hard and live frugally to survive in those tough times. Their first venture was to run a Greyhound Bus stop and cafe in Estelline. Ewell operated the bus stop and Bea operated the café. After several years of living with early morning to very late night working hours, they saved enough money to buy a farm in Olton, Texas. There they renewed a loving relationship with Ewell’s uncle and aunt, Tom and Ola Whitaker and their children, Joe and Betty Sue. Eventually they returned to their early surroundings and bought farms near the High Point community. Again they were close to their many family members and enjoyed being with their many nieces and nephews. They also enjoyed playing “42” and dominoes with their neighbors. Bea enjoyed working in several homemaking and civic clubs. Later they retired and moved to Childress and continued to enjoy their large family even though they had no children of their own. Ewell Adams died in August, 1989. In her final years she asked her niece, LaNelle Michie, and nephew, Ray Don Caldwell to look after her. She was also happy to be under the medicial care of her grand nephew, Dr. David Caldwell. The family wishes to express its appreciation to the staff of The Cottage Village for the professional and loving care given to Bea during her final years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ewell in 1989, her parents, Jasper and Lula Huddleston, her brothers, Hugh Huddleston, Lester and E.J. Huddleston and sister Wilma Caldwell. She is survived by nieces and nephews: Ray Don Caldwell, LaNelle Michie, Jerry Huddleston Betty Sue Williams, Barbara Cosper, Laverne MCConathy, Eddie Adams, Bobby Adams, Jimmy Adams, Gary Adams, Paula Jacobs, Stephen Adams, Ronald Adams, Sandra Mills MIlton Adams Jenny Davis
