Obituary for Refugio Arellano

Refugio Guzman Arellano, age 86, passed away on Sunday, July 24. Burial will be on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at 10 AM in Childress Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Refugio was born on March 3, 1930 in Derby, Texas to Refugio Jose and Petra (Guzman) Arellano. He married his wife, Maria Martinez, in Phillipsburg, Kansas on June 25, 1947 and they moved to Childress in 1955. He worked as a migrant worker before moving to Childress where he became certified to work as an Auto Body Repairman at the Panhandle Chevrolet House. In 1972, he opened up RG’s Paint and Body and Sales. Throughout the years, he worked for D&L, Hewlin Frith and Columbus Lewellen before retiring at the age of 72. He loved hunting and collecting guns. Above all else, he loved his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons Refugio Arellano, Jr. and Jose Luis Arellano; one daughter Olga Arellano; and three brothers Eliborio Arellano, Jesus Arellano and Eugenio Arellano. Survivors include his wife, Maria of Childress; four daughters, Rosie Estrada and husband, Juan of Amarillo, Sylvia Baeza and husband, George of Amarillo, Belinda Madrigales and husband, Noe of Vernon, and Liza Arellano of New York, New York; four sons, Arnesto “Ernie” Arellano of Childress, Raphael Arellano of Childress, Angel Arellano and wife, Teresa of Childress, and Noel Arellano and wife, Melissa of Childress; one sister, Alexandria Ibarra and husband, Frank of Childress; twenty grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family and friends.
