Ponciano Diaz Mendoza, age 82, passed away on Thursday, October 19, 2017. Funeral services will be at 10 AM on Monday, October 23, 2017 at the First Baptist Church with Pastor Ricky Herrera, officiating, and Pastor Tommy Herrera and Clergy member Joel Cruz assisting. Rosary will be held at 7:00pm on Sunday, October 22, 2017 at Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Childress Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Ponciano was born on December 19, 1934 in San Pablo, Cedral San Luis Potosí, Mexico to Luis Rodriguez and Agapita Diaz Mendoza. He loved to watch baseball and work on his yard. His favorite saying was “no creo”. Ponciano was a very simple and hard-working man who believed family was very important and should always be united. He loved watching his grandchildren, took great pride in their accomplishments, and was very protective of them. Ponciano was preceded in death by his parents, brother Enrique Mendoza, and sister Francisca Mendoza. Survivors include son, Tony Tagle and wife, Bertha of Childress; son, Joe Torres of Childress; daughters, Emilda Santiesteban and husband, Richard of Mesquite, Mary Estrada and husband, Javier of Childress, Teresa Vitela and husband, Lloyd of Childress, and Mona Garcia of Childress; son, Ponciano Mendoza, Jr. and wife, Diana of Canyon; son, Adam Mendoza of Ft. Worth; brother, Marcelino Mendoza; brother, Emilio Mendoza; sisters, Emilia Mendoza and Maria del Carmen; brother, Jesus Mendoza; twenty-eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
