Obituary for Phyllis Laffey

Phyllis (Vruno) Carnley Laffey, age 88, went to be with her Heavenly Father on November 18, 2015 in Childress, Texas after a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be at 2PM on Monday, November 23, 2015 in Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ronnie Shoffner officiating. Burial will follow in Childress Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be Sunday, November 22 from 6:00-8:00 p.m.at Johnson Funeral Home in Childress. Phyllis was born on December 21, 1926 to Samuel and Phillipa Vruno in St. Paul Minnesota. She had six brothers: Sam, Mikey, Joey, Frankie, Angelo, and Charlie, and sisters Mary, Annie, Josie, and Rosie. She was affectionately called Fanny by her family. She was married to the late William Douglas Carnley in November1943 in St. Paul Minnesota, with whom she had three children: Linda (Carnley) Heath, William Douglas Carnley Jr., and Ronnie Michael Carnley. She later married Michael Laffey in Las Vegas, in October 1963. They resided in Gardena California until 1977 when they moved to Childress. Phyllis worked for CRMC as a cafeteria aide for many years and retired in 1993. She was a wonderful cook and was known especially for her authentic Italian spaghetti sauce. She loved playing cards and taught most of her grandchildren how to play poker, gin rummy and how to shoot dice. A kid at heart, Phyllis loved playing games, building puzzles, stuffed animals, and shopping at Wally World and the Dollar Store. She was preceded in death by her husband Michael Laffey in 1989. Survivors include a daughter, Linda Heath and husband, Rudy Jay Heath; two sons, William Douglas Carnley Jr and Ronnie Michael Carnley. Phyllis was the doting grandmother to Jamie, Phyllis, Shane, Ronnie, Tiffany, Trisha, Jamie, Troy, Cody, Trenton, Billy, and Jessica. She was also the proud great-grandmother of Ryan, Skylar, Jessica, Mason, Shane Jr., Alexis, Karli, Hunter, Chase, Claire, Jada, Kaila, Leia, Gavin, Lukas, Drake, Gracie, Tripp, Tate, Alana and Bella, Emma, Julie, Karli, and Isabelle; and also the great-great grandmother to Zaiden Carnley, Kasen Glover, and newest addition Kaden Michael Stillwagon, whom she got to meet just before passing. Memorial donations may be made to CRMC Hospice, Childress Meals on Wheels, or to the Alzheimer's Association.
