Obituary for Peggy Bellah (Paine)

Peggy Jo Bellah, age 93, passed away in Bastrop, Texas on February 12, 2021.

Services will be at 10:00am, Saturday, March 6, 2021 at Joe E. Jones Memorial Chapel in Childress Cemetery with Dr. Mike Henderson officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Childress Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.

Peggy was born on July 28, 1927 to Homer and Goldie (McRae) Paine in Wichita Falls, Texas. As a small child she moved with her family several times before settling in Childress. She graduated from Childress High School in 1944 and attended Texas Tech University. She married Arvene Bellah on February16, 1947. Arvene preceded her in death on May 9, 1989. She is also preceded in death by her niece, Tammy Paine.

She was an active member of Central Christian Church where she served as a Deaconess, Chairman of the Board, Sunday School Teacher, and President of the Christian Women's Fellowship.

She was a member of Childress Retired School Personnel, Childress Hospital Auxiliary, Friends of Library, Red Hat Society, American Cancer Society, and served Meals on Wheels for many years. She loved to play cards, visit, and go out to eat with friends.

She retired from CISD in January 1988 after working 23 years as Secretary at Wilson and Childress Elementary Schools.

She moved to Bastrop, Texas in 2012 to be near her daughter She resided inĀ  Argent Court Assisted Living Center and Lost Pines Nursing and Rehabilitation Center until her death where she made many friends and was active in church and social activities.

Survivors include her daughter, Karen Smith of Bastrop, Texas; her brother and sister-in-law Bud and Ida Paine of Groom, Texas; niece, Terri Spake and husband John, of Mora, New Mexico and nephew, Jay Paine and wife, Angie of Amarillo.
