Pat Young Steed, age 65, died Sunday, April 21, 2013 in Childress. Services will be at 4:00 PM Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Johnny Robertson and Rev. Kerry Hurst officiating. Burial will be in Childress Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Johnson Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Pat was born September 27, 1947 in Childress to Bernice and Mildred Young Steed. He graduated from CHS in 1966 and from West Texas University in 1970. Afterward he was employed with the Harlingen School District as Vice Principal as well as basketball/football coach. There he met and married Jackie Burrows, June 27, 1975. They then moved to Childress where he worked with his mother at the family business, H.S. Abstractor, Inc. Pat was a part of a Medical Action Crisis Committee (self appointed by concerned citizens: David Galligan, James Driver, Wayne Lindley, and Larry Moore). They brought in doctors who helped make the CRMC the hospital it is today. He was city councilman and Mayor pro-tem for ten years, and in 1987 , he was elected Mayor serving until 2005. With classmates John Inman, James Driver, Bennie Foard, David Galligan and Jerry Henderson, they worked to make a significant impact on the Childress community. At First United Methodist in Childress, Pat was church treasurer and taught the Upper Room Sunday School class for many years. In the past he served on all committees as well as with the youth of First Methodist He is preceded in death by his parents, Bernice and Mildred Young.
