Funeral services for Nelda June Rogers “Junebug”, 86, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at the First United Methodist Church with Johnny Robertson and Matthew McCurley officiating. Burial will follow in Childress Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at Johnson Funeral Home.
She passed away Sunday, November 28, 2021 in Waco.
Nelda June West was born in Kirkland July 2, 1935 to Charles Otis West and Avallee Pickerel West. She graduated Kirkland High School in 1953 where she lettered in multiple sports. She married Charles Rogers on March 1, 1974. She was the bookkeeper for Rogers Lumber for many years. She loved TCU football, the Baylor Lady Bears and the Bobcats and Lady Cats. She loved football, golf, bowling and all sports and she all those with the love of her life, Charles. She was an accomplished fast pitch softball player and played basketball in high school. During one game, an opponent kept pushing her over the half court line (it was 3 on 3 half court basketball) and she told her coach, “if she does it again, I’m going to trip her.” She did it again, and Nelda tripped her! That girl never pushed her again. She also loved to square dance and snow ski. Most of all, she loved the Lord and taught her family to as well.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Chuck Rogers and a sister, Charlene “Butch” Schaefer.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Rogers; a daughter, Terri Castleberry and husband, Marion; a son, Keith Loter and wife, Michelle; a daughter, Robin McCarter and husband Darren; a son, Paul Aubrey Rogers; eight grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; a sister, Peggy McClain and a brother, Larry West.
