She went to her heavenly home on August 1, 2021. She was born on March 24, 1927, in the High Point community and remained a life-long resident of Childress County. Nadine Parr was the daughter of J.F. and Leta Henley.
Deanie went to High Point school through the 8th grade; she then went to Childress High School and graduated at 16 as the salutatorian. Her first job was dressing the windows at JCPenney. She later held many jobs in Childress, including the Head of the Central Appraisal District for 31 years.
She met her husband, Bruce Parr, in the 8th grade. Deanie and Bruce never dated anyone else. At 21, Deanie married Bruce on March 19, 1948, and lived on Buckle L Ranch. One honor she and her husband shared was being elected the King and Queen of the Old Settlers Rodeo. It has been 73 years of marriage and 81 years of dedicating themselves to one another.
Deanie’s hobbies included: playing piano, playing 42, reading, performing programs (including: writing poems and speeches) for many organizations, solving crossword puzzles, sewing, and singing. Additionally, she was passionate about: going to Branson, Missouri, donating to many programs for Childress organizations, watching rodeos, and cheering on the Childress Bobcats for every sporting event. Also known as a Rocking Chair Fan, Deanie spent many nights next to the radio listening to every Bobcat sporting event, even knowing all of the athletes’ statistics. Analyzing these stats, she quickly became a scout for her grandson, Shawn Cullins --a coach in another district. Of all her hobbies and passions, Deanie was devoted to the church; she read the Bible every day, sang in the choir, was the MYF leader for many years (along with Bruce), and was a Sunday school teacher. Deanie also had an unwavering love for her family; she was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother of 15.
In addition to her parents, JF and Leta Henley, she is predeceased by her in-laws: Grady and Anna Mae Parr; brothers: Pete and Leon; brothers-in-law: Tommy and Clee; sisters-in-law: Beth, Ledaine and Omagene; and a beautiful granddaughter, Nadalee.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, Bruce, is their eldest son: Brett and wife Barbara Sue and children: Grady and Shelby, Jordan and Teresa, Annie and Tim, Kessie and Nate, and Tanner; only daughter: Paula and husband Richie and children: Lensey and Shawn and Delia; youngest son: Mark and wife Glenda and child, Rance; 15 great grandkids; a brother-in-law: Terry and wife Faye; sisters-in-law: Donna Kaye and Regina; numerous nieces and nephews.
Deanie was quick-witted, intelligent, loving, talented, stubborn and frugal; she was loved by her family and friends. She will be, and already is, missed by many. Those who wish to remember Deanie Parr in a special way may make a memorial to the First United Methodist Church in Childress, Texas.
