Obituary for Myrtle "Harris" Helm

Myrtle Mae (Harris) Helm, age 81, passed away October 13, 2017 in Childress, Texas. Services will be on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church in Memphis, Texas with Rob Blum, Retired Minister, officiating and Trey Morgan, Pastor of the Childress Church of Christ, assisting. Graveside services will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Memphis under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be Monday, October 16, 2017 from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Johnson Funeral Home in Childress. Myrtle was born on January 15, 1936, in Frederick, Oklahoma, to Travis and Thola Henson Harris. She graduated from Lakeview High School in 1954. She married James Leon Helm on February 19, 1953. They lived, farmed, and raised their two sons in the Hall-Childress County area. Myrtle later graduated from West Texas State University in 1981. Myrtle’s working career included banking, law, and teaching. She enjoyed golf with friends, loved playing bridge, and was an avid Bobcat fan. She was affectionately known to many as Mimi Myrtle. Myrtle was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and loved by all. Myrtle was predeceased by her parents, her husband, one sister Elizabeth Ivy, and one brother Herman Dale Harris. Myrtle is survived by two sons, Mike Helm and wife, Margaret of Harker Heights, Texas, and John Paul Helm and wife, Leah of Childress, Texas; five grandchildren, Jeff Helm and wife, Kari of Mexico City, Mexico, Wes Helm and wife, Brandi of Rowlett, Texas, Bo Helm and wife, Hayley of Childress, Texas, Jansyn Garcia and husband, Danny of Estelline, Texas, and Jaci Helm of Childress, Texas. Her surviving great grandchildren are Taylor Garcia, David Helm, Daniel Helm, Audrey Helm, Addilynn Garcia, and Elizabeth Helm.
