Obituary for Milton Howard

Milton F. Howard, age 91, passed away on Monday, January 21, 2019, in Amarillo, Texas.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 25, 2019 at Johnson Funeral Home in Childress, Texas. 
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at First Baptist Church in Childress, Texas with Rev. Chad King, Chad Howard, and Darrell Koop officiating.  Burial will follow in the Childress cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
Milton was born on May 26, 1927 in Childress County to Milton Clifford and Beulah Mae (Reeves) Howard.  He married Irene Robinson on October 22, 1947.  They spent 39 wonderful years together.
Milton was a devoted Christian who lived by the Bible.  He was an active member at First Baptist Church for 71 years, serving as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and in many other areas of ministry. He retired from the Texas Highway Department in 1987 after 35 years of service.  After retirement, Milton, a skilled carpenter and craftsman, opened Creative Crafts and Woodworking where he practiced his skills for 10 years.
Milton served in the United States Army/Air Force from 1946 to 1947 spending much of his time in the Philippines.  He was an avid reader of Louis L’Amour novels, a history buff, and had a love of math, especially algebra and geometry.  He was a great caretaker of not only his family, but other residents of Cottage Village where he lived the last four years of his life. He adored his family and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Milton was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Irene (Robinson) Howard; son, Steve Howard; three sisters and three brothers. 
He is survived by two sons, Frank Howard and wife Nancy of Hutto, Texas, and John Howard and wife Patty of Midland, Texas; daughter-in-law, Jeanne Howard of Denton, Texas; brother, Dan Howard of Childress, Texas; sister-in-law, Mattie Owens and husband Kenneth of Childress, Texas; five grandchildren, Niki Koop and husband Darrell of Liberty Hill, Texas, Chad Howard and wife Marianne of Little Elm, Texas, Kristi Criswell of Odessa, Texas, Kelli Colbath and husband Brian of Stanton, Texas, Kati Goodman and husband Monty of Midland, Texas; thirteen great grandchildren, Kaleb Koop, Noel Koop, Danielle Koop, Zander Howard, Zeke Howard, Brantley Criswell, Cooper Criswell, Bailey Colbath, Barrett Colbath, Brooks Colbath, Burkleigh Colbath, Kasen Goodman and Weston Goodman.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Childress Christian Service Fund or Childress Meals on Wheels.
