Michael Lee Cox, age 70, died Monday, September 15, 2014 in Childress. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at Tell Southside Baptist Church with Harold Moore, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Tell Baptist Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Johnson Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Michael was born on May 28, 1944 in Dodson, TX to J.D. and Victoria (Hughes) Cox. He graduated from Estelline High School. He married the love of his life, Patsy Hammer, on June 29, 1968 in Clarksville, TX. They owned and operated service stations in Irving and Arlington, and moved to take over the family farm in Tell in 1973. A third generation farmer and rancher, Michael loved cotton and growing it. As an outdoorsman, he had a love and appreciation for working the dirt and making something grow in it, as well as a love for horses. He bought and sold horses for several years, and loved to attend rodeos with his family. One of the things that was most important to Michael was 4-H. It was a big deal, and he went all over the country for it, taking his children to all their project and livestock shows. He was an Adult Leader for 4-H for several years, and supported numerous young 4-Hers in their endeavors. He also was a firm supporter of the National Rifle Association. His greatest love was his family, and he attended as many events and functions as he possibly could. His wife, children and grandchildren brought him great pride and he loved to see them involved in things. An avid drag racer, he loved to mechanic and to drive fast cars. Fun-loving, happy, and friendly, Michael will be fondly remembered by anyone who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Gary Cox. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Tell Southside Baptist Church, PO Box 7, Tell, TX 79259.
