Obituary for Mattie Brannon

Mattie Louise Brannon, age 76, passed from this life on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 in Childress, Texas.
Graveside services will be on Friday, December 21, 2018 at 9:00 AM and will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.
Mattie was born in San Marcos, Texas to the late Emma Martha Mannie and Odell Douglas Crayton Sr. on December 25th, 1941. In the height of integration in the 1950s, Mattie and her peers were the second group of students to graduate from New Braunfels High School. 
She met and married her first husband Vern Dean Wilson on Dec 9, 1961. During her first marriage she had two children, Lisa LaMon and Vern Dean. Her son Dean passed away shortly after birth. She continued her education at St. Philips college where she studied upholstery.   She lived in various cities in Texas. Mattie also lived in other states, including California for a short period of time.
Anyone that has ever been blessed to have met Mattie knew she has never met a stranger. Mattie enjoyed being independent and adventurous. She was an entrepreneur and had her own line of perfume called LaMon, named after her daughter Lisa, as well as her own upholstery business.
She married her second husband, Jerry Green, in Gonzalez, Texas on June 28, 1972 when she was 30 years old. They had several businesses, which included a restaurant, upholstery shop, septic tank cleaning business, and a large pig farm where they planted milo and other crops to feed pigs.   She enjoyed entertaining people and making others happy around her.
Mattie married L. J. Brannon on December 25, 1978 in San Antonio, Texas. They lived in San Antonio and New Braunfels until they moved to Childress, Texas in 1990.   She attended services at West End Church of Christ while living in New Braunfels, and also Harper Street Church of Christ in Seguin where L. J. ministered.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Emma Martha and Odell Crayton; a daughter, Lisa LaMon Mitchell; a son, Vern Dean Wilson; two brothers, William and Odell Crayton; and grandson, Wayne Allen Mitchell.
Survivors include her grandson, Jonathan Mitchell and his wife, Vanessa Mitchell; sister, Norma Ann Crayton Frazier and her husband, Arthur Frazier; and brother, Jerome Powell Crayton and his wife, Chonita Crayton. Mattie is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Daisy Mae Crayton and Frank J. Crayton.
Grandchildren surviving are Jasmin Mitchell, Aubrey Layne Littleman, Jonathan La-Mon, Cavin Allen Mitchell, Isabella Luann White, Aniela Lisa Mitchell, Aaliyah Ray Mitchell, and J’Von Dean Mitchell. She is also survived by sons, Rubin, Joshua, Rudy, Jason, and Jeremy. Also surviving are children from L.J. Brannon’s previous marriage: Pauline, Carol, Lonnie, David, Clifford, and Donald.
Mattie is also survived by a host of cousins, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, who loved and admired her. In addition, Mattie has a host of friends who loved and admired her dearly. She lived a fruitful life and now the heavenly Angels have called her home.
