Obituary for Mary Lois Smith
Mary Lois Smith, 79, passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2020 in Amarillo. Family memorial services will be held at a later date.
She was born December 26, 1940 in Paducah to Howard Martin and Lois Desi Woodley Martin.
She spent 38 years educating children as a teacher. The first six years of her career were spent at Porter Elementary in Porter, Texas while the following 32 were all spent at Childress Elementary School. She loved to travel, having visited 40 of the 50 states. She loved Dachshunds and owned many through the years. She was a collector of anything relating to pigs. She was fiercely independent, but later in life, loved the people and the care she received at Cottage Village. She loved her church and her church family at First Baptist of Childress where she was a longtime member. Above all, she loved her sons and her family very much.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Frances Wadley.
Survivors include two sons, Marty Smith and wife, Donna and Ricky Smith and wife, Beverly, all of Childress; grandchildren Michael Smith of Childress, Cole Smith of Lubbock, Jenica Hightower and husband, Cory, of Childress and Jessica Clark and husband, Sheridan, of Lufkin; great grandchildren Cash Hightower and Brody Hightower of Childress and Knox Clark and Remi Clark of Lufkin; a sister, Susie Dickey of Garland; lifelong friend Barbara Nichols of Childress along with numerous cousins and other family members.
