Obituary for Lowell Wakefield

Lowell Clayton Wakefield, age 88, passed away on Friday, August 25, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at the Childress Church of Christ with Trey Morgan officiating and Dr. Mike Henderson assisting. Burial will follow in Childress Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Lowell was born on October 25, 1928 in Hall County, Texas to Remus Clayton and Erma Lee (Crawford) Wakefield. He and Reba Dale Wade were married on August 9, 1950 in Donley County in the preacher’s living room. A local businessman for many years, Lowell taught his family the value of hard work. He also was very involved in his community, having served on the Childress City Council, Downtown Merchants Committee, and was involved in many civic and school events. In 1990, he was honored as Man of the Year at the annual Chamber of Commerce banquet. A Christian man, he was a member of the Childress Church of Christ, where he served as a deacon. He also was very devoted to his family. Lowell was preceded in death by his parents, and by a son, Mark Anthony Wakefield, in 1967. Survivors include his wife, Reba; brother, Gerald; sisters, Joyce Polasek and Janet Wilson; daughter, Myra Goundie and husband, Dale; son, James Wakefield and wife, Jill; daughter, Iris Dietrich and husband, Mike; daughter, Teresa Popnoe and husband, Jimmy; son, Paul Wakefield and wife, Stacey; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Amanda, Jennifer, Anthony, Teresa, Art, Miranda, Abby, Matthew, Jordan, Haden, Ryan and Erin; twenty-six great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family and friends.
