Obituary for Lois Carol Smith

After graduating from Childress High School, she attended Hardin Simmons University where she was a Tex Cowgirl. She was transferred to North Texas State College where she received her degree in Physical Education and English. She became a teacher in the Wichita Falls School system. Lois united in marriage with Dean Smith on Aug. 28 1954, and was married for 66 years until his passing May 21, 2021.

She is survived by her daughter, Lora Jo Aubrey, (husband) David; Son, Danny Smith (wife) Kathryn; Son, Brett Donald Smith; Sister Jo Thomas, and sister-in-law, Myrtie Herrin; grandchildren and their spouses:
Jared Aubrey and J.J., Renee Pollard and Braden, Chase Aubrey and Angie, Jacob Smith and Annie, Matthew Smith and Brooke, Chace Bishop and Jenny, Justin Smith, Lee and Chelsea Meleagris, Ashley and Marcus Trujillo: great- grandchildren; Easton and Scotty Pollard, Elyn Aubrey, Laynie and Brody Aubrey, Dean, Duke and Winnie Smith, Asher Smith, Mya and Kaden Bishop, Aiden and Madeline Smith; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Jeb; parents; her siblings, Jay, Harold, Maxine, Mildred, Don Ray and Shirley.

Because of Dean's military career they moved often, serving in Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Kansas and two tours in Germany, retiring in Lawton. They then moved to Moore, Oklahoma and Lois lived at an independent living center for nearly 3 years. She loved her Rivermont family. Our family has been blessed to have a mother who was always kind and loving to all. She woke up every morning smiling and trying to help others. Family was everything to her. We learned by the way she lived. To love God and honor thy mother and father. To stay close to your family and to smile and be happy with what you are given in life.
