Obituary for Leonard "Leonard King" King

Leonard Lee King, Jr., 84, of Childress died Thursday, May 7, 2020. Private graveside services will be held Monday, May 11, 2020 at Childress Cemetery. Burial will follow under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
Leonard was born on February 11, 1936 in Austin, Texas to Leonard King, Sr. and Mabel King.
His family moved to Childress County in 1942. He graduated from Childress High School in 1954 and graduated from Texas Tech University in 1959.
He married Barbara Williams on May 13, 1966 and shared 43 years together before her passing.
Leonard was a member of and active in several agricultural related businesses and organizations. This includes over 20 years as a director on the Federal Land Bank board. He also served as a Childress County Commissioner.
He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Military in 1968 as a Reserve Army Officer with the rank of Captain.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Childress.
Leonard was a wonderful father and devoted PeePaw. He loved teaching his grandkids about farming and cattle operations and offering wise advice about life in general. He always had a hug and smile for them that will serve as precious memories for us all.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard King, Sr. and Mabel King and his wife Barbara.
Survivors include a daughter, Katy Escobedo and husband, Daniel; four grandchildren, Hali, Max, Alexis and Bianca Escobedo and a son, Richard King.
