Obituary for Kathryn Meek

Kathryn Sue Meek, age 81 of Childress passed away on Saturday August 26, 2017 and headed out on her Heavenly Adventure. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Monday August 28, 2017 at First Baptist Church with Kerry Wood officiating. Burial will follow in Childress Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Sunday August 27, 2017 at Johnson Funeral Home from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Kathryn was born on September 7, 1935 to Joseph Tillman King and Susan E. King in Childress. She was raised on a cotton farm just northwest of town, she had grandparents across the street and aunts and uncles down the road. When she was seventeen she graduated from Childress High School and married Glenn Buckley. Kathy played the piano and organ at the First Baptist Church from age seventeen until her eighties, she also played for many weddings and funerals. She and two of her friends had a gift shop for several years. Later Kathy moved to Manitou Springs, Colorado and went to work for the astronaut Jim Irwin. Irwin had founded the High Flight Foundation after his Apollo 15 mission. Kathy and several others accompanied Mr. Irwin on and expedition to Mt. Ararat in Turkey in search of the remains of Noah’s Ark. She eventually moved back to Texas and became a Registered Nurse. Kathy attended her 50th high school reunion where she met former classmate Fred Meek and they soon married in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho where they lived for a while until returning to live in Texas. Kathy love painting, decorating, playing the piano and spending time with family, she also loved adventure but, above all else she loved God. She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph King, Susan King; brothers, Sidney Joiner, Garland Joiner. She is survived by her Husband, Fred Meek, 2 Sons, Ken Buckley and wife Lynn of Waco TX, Greg Buckley of Childress; Daughter Gwen and husband Zearry of Bridgeport TX; Grandchildren, Tara Sims and husband Jason of Childress, Lacy Naumann and husband Bert of Waco, Thad Keys and wife Jenny of Fort Worth, Lance Buckley and wife Rachel of Carrollton, Bergan Fairchild and husband Kase of Childress and Rhett Buckley of Lubbock. Great-grandchildren, Olivia Reed, Ace Naumann, Marshall Naumann, Jonah Reed, Heath Naumann, Presleigh Sims and Judah Keys, Adalynn Buckley
