Obituary for Karen Nippert

Karen June Nippert, age 80, passed away on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 in Lubbock.
Graveside services will be at 2 PM on Friday, December 21, 2018 in Childress Cemetery with Rev. Mary Cantrell officiating. Burial is under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 7 PM on Thursday, Decemeber 20, 2018 at Johnson Funeral Home.
Karen was born on July 9, 1938 in Weatherford, Oklahoma to Gordon Gossett Rice and Willie “Bill” Pearl (Bell) Rice.   She was active in community leadership and development, and founded the Girls High School Service Club.   She was active in the Alpha Zeta division of the Women’s Department Club in Childress, a member of Modern Homes, was a director of the Childress Community Choir, and coordinated with a nurse in Childress County for a fundraiser that would provide no-cost vaccinations for children in the county.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister Annette Pace.
Survivors include her husband, Derrill; two sons, Derrill Nippert, Jr., and Rice Nippert and wife, Nancy; three grandchildren, Drew Nippert and wife, Meghann, Elliot Nippert and fiance, Meagan Martinez, and Sarah Tucker and husband, Beau; one great-grandchild, Rice Nippert; one brother-in-law, Dwight Pace; one sister-in-law, Gay Lockett and husband, Larry; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Memorial donations may be sent to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
