Obituary for Joy Rose

Joy Fields Rose, age 84, of Childress, Texas passed away surrounded by family on February 19, 2019. She was born February 3, 1935 to Jim B. and Janie Julie Fields.
While Joy's talents were many, most will remember has as an extremely accomplished horsewoman who went on a 1000 herd cattle drive in South Dakota when she was 18 years old, traveled to Brussels Belgium with a Wild West Show, was the runner up World Champion All Around Cowgirl in 1961, and ran barrels winning the Texas Cowboy Reunion in 1968- just to mention a few highlights. She raised, trained, and showed champion paint and quarter horses in all disciplines, including showing the first Supreme Champion paint horse Snip Bar in 1974.
Joy was also a rancher, phenomenal cook and gardener. She loved to can pickles, beets and her famous mesquite bean jelly. Joy was a warm, compassionate person (Mimi) with a sense of humor and a willing ear who lived her life to the fullest with an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way. She was an independent hardworking lady who could work alongside men half her age. She loved telling stories of her adventures and loved talking about having new ones. By those who were fortunate enough to know her, she is already missed.
She is survived by two daughters, Julie (Patrick) Gleason and Judy (Rick)Vest; sister, Barbara Currie; five grandchildren, Joy (Troy) York, Carolyn (Bryan) Clark, Frank Parks, Baye (Waylon) Bagby, Dillon Vest; and eight great grandchildren, Makayla Warmoth, Coy Warmoth, Hagen York, Kenneth York, Sage Bagby, Emma Bagby, Barrett Bagby and Carsyn Clark (expected to arrive the first week of April);nephew Jim (Karen) Currie and great nephews Hayden and Joel Currie, and best friend Sarah Snow.
She was preceded in death by her parents; great grandson Wylie Bagby; brother- in- law Gene Currie.
A Celebration of Life will be held on April 6, 2019 at Cooke County Cowboy Church, 8207 US-82, Gainesville, TX 76240 from 2-4pm.
