Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 14, 2020 at 1 p.m. at Main Street Church of Christ in Lockney with Kyle Brock officiating. Burial will follow in Lockney Cemetery under the direction of Moore-Rose Funeral Home. Joey was born September 10, 1964 in Lockney. He grew up on the farm east of Sterley in Floyd County. He graduated in 1983 from Lockney High School.
Joey believed in the rewards of hard work and spent the last several years as a crop adjuster in the insurance business.
Joey enjoyed many interests throughout his life. He was a licensed pilot, coached his boys in their younger years, shared a love of working on cars and trucks with his dad, learning to be a darn good cook from his mother, and being spontaneous with “the prettiest girl in the world.” He loved fishing and hunting and was quite skilled at both. Above all, he just loved to have fun.
Joey took most pride in raising his two sons and delighting in his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry Mason Davis and Dovie Carol (Auld) Davis and his father-in-law Fred Wilks.
He leaves behind his wife, Shanon Wilks Davis of Childress; children Weston Davis and wife, Jordan, of Van Alstyne, Jake Davis of Dallas, Austin Lankford and wife, Taren, of Childress, and Destinee Lankford of Childress; a brother Randy Davis and wife, Heather Peck, of Indianapolis, Indian; sister Julie May and husband, Rodney, of Elkhart, Texas; sister-in-law Jolynn Darr and husband, Gary, of Childress; and mother-in-law, Sally Wilks, of Childress. Left to carry on his legacy are his grandchildren William Mason Davis, Tyrese Lankford, Ella Lankford, and Maverick Pettigrew.
Most importantly, Joey believed in the teachings of Jesus Christ and was prepared to embrace his Father in Heaven. He will be missed dearly here on earth, but we rejoice in knowing he is reunited with his Mom and Dad in heaven.
Memorials may be made to Childress We Can Care, PO Box 7, Childress, Texas 79201.
