Joan Monson, age 86, passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 13, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Lou Ellerbrook officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at Johnson Funeral Home. Joan was born October 19, 1930 in Paducah to Clifton Charles and Edna (Hailey) Hill. She graduated from Paducah High School in 1946 and attended Baylor University for two years. She married Donald Monson in 1949 in Burnet, and they were married for 54 years. They moved to Cee Vee in 1951. A farmer’s wife, she was very active in Paducah PTA and the Modern Home Club, and was a member of the Fellowship Class at First United Methodist Church. She loved to cook. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Donald Monson, a grandson Jason Rhodes, brother-in-law Maurice Monson, and sister-in-law Lois Monson. Survivors include a daughter, Diane Rhodes and husband, Patrick of Cee Vee; a son, Reid Monson of Cee Vee; a grandson, Brian Rhodes and wife, Amy of Katy; a nephew, Gerald Monson and wife, Berva of Childress; a niece, Connie Briscoe and husband, Phil of Wylie; a niece, Nicki Owens and husband, Bill of Magnolia; two great-grandchildren, Emma Rhodes and Carter J. Rhodes of Katy, along with many other extended family members. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church or a favorite charity.
