Obituary for Jimmy "Hoot" Gibson

Jimmy Dale "Hoot" Gibson, 75, of Childress, TX passed away on July 11, 2014. Following his wishes to be cremated, a celebration of life will be held at 2pm on August 2nd at the Holiday Inn Express, 3001 Ave F NW in Childress. Jimmy was born on July 6, 1939 in Goodlett, TX to TC and Estelle Gibson. He had one brother, Mainess Gibson. Jim attended West Texas State University until he was drafted by the Army. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he worked in the construction and mining industry for various companies. Jim lived in several different places throughout the United States while working in construction, and also lived and worked in Australia for a period of time. While living near Lander, WY, Jim met and married Jenny Mathis . Together they had two children, Terri Dale and Gabriel Lee. They later divorced, but were devoted parents to their children. After retiring from Zurn/NEPCO, Jim moved to Childress, TX. He loved the mountains, fishing, hunting and camping. He had a special talent for leather working, and made leather belts for several friends and family members. Jim never met a stranger and always had a funny story to tell. He loved his family and was especially proud of his five grandchildren and loved to hear about them. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, TC and Estelle Gibson. Survivors include his daughter, Terri Crouch and husband, Charles, of Loveland, CO; his son Gabe Gibson and wife, Laurie, of Loveland, CO; his grandchildren, Jacob, Wyatt, Levi, Grady and Bailey of Loveland, CO; his brother, Mainess Gibson and wife, Gloria, of Houston, TX; and a nephew Mike Gibson and wife, Marilou, of Boise, ID.
