Obituary for Jimmie Rowland

Jimmie Earl Rowland, age 75, passed away on Monday, October 29, 2018. Funeral services will be at 1 pm on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at the Carey Baptist Church with Dr. Craig Darter officiating. Burial will follow in Childress Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 from 5 to 6:30 PM at Johnson Funeral Home. Jimmie was born on August 8, 1943 in Vernon, Texas to Clois and Dorothy (Skipworth) Rowland. A hard worker, he started out as a butcher in local meat markets, and then worked for BNSF Railroad for many years as an equipment operator. After his retirement, he bought a freight shipping company, Beaver Express, and delivered merchandise to many local residents. In his spare time, Jimmie loved to restore old cars. He also enjoyed playing golf, and was a lifelong member of the Childress Elks Lodge and the Childress Country Club. In his last years he loved to ride his golf cart everywhere, from the grocery store to outings in the park with his grandkids and all points in between. Above all else, Jimmie loved his family and spending time with them, and his grandkids and great-grandkids brought him great joy and pride. He was preceded in death by five children, Jamie Rowland, Shondra Rowland, Tate Rowland, Terrie Trosper, and Sherrie Hamm; and two brothers, Roy Rowland and Bobby Rowland. Survivors include his parents, Clois and Dorothy Rowland of Canyon; one son, Chad Rowland Riddell and wife, Mary of Amarillo; three daughters, Jaclyn Daniel and husband, Bryan of Childress, Jennifer Jones and husband, Shane Booth of Memphis, TX, and Jatana Lowe of Baird, TX; one sister, Linda Stone of Canyon, TX; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
