Obituary for Jerry "Gammy" Miller

Jerry Anita "Gammy" Miller age 72 of Northfield passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2017. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 8, at the Northfield Cemetery with Minister Trey Morgan officiating. Burial was under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation was held Tuesday, March 7 from 7 to 9 PM in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Jerry was born October 19, 1944 in Childress to Allan and Wilma (Bethany) Thomas. She attended grade school in Northfield, and graduated from Childress High School in 1962. She then attended WTA&M, then known as West Texas State University before moving to Odessa, Texas. On January 24, 1975, Jerry married the love of her life, her best friend, Elmer "Candy" Miller. They spent the next 31 years together until his death in 2006. Jerry worked for the Gas Co. in Odessa, then she and her husband purchased All-Spray Weed & Pest Control, where they worked side by side until they sold the business in 2001. Jerry then worked at T-Woods Grocery (a local convince store) where she treated all of her customers like family. Jerry had a servants heart; when her boys were small, she spent many years in various positions on the West Odessa Little League board. She was a member of the Sherwood Church of Christ in Odessa until she moved to Northfield in 2014. She loved her family, spending time and encouraging them in all their endeavors. After having grandchildren, there was no escaping a story from Gammy about her kiddos. Jerry was very much a people person, never meeting a stranger; when you got thru talking to Jerry, you were caught up on everything that had happened since your last meeting, and she caught up and loving listened to anything new happening with you. Most of all Jerry was known for being a caretaker. She took care of numerous family members. From her sister-in-law, brother, Dad, Mom, two aunts, and finally her husband; Jerry did so, showing God's love to each. This was in Jerry's nature, to selflessly care for not only these family members, but all of her family who loved her very much. Jerry was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Miller; parents, Allan and Wilma Thomas; brothers, Joe, and Johnny Thomas; and sister, Sandra Thomas Survivors include, son, Shade Miller and wife, Sharla of Childress, son, Shane Miller and girlfriend, Danielle Clark of Northfield; sister-in-law, Laura Ryan and husband, Pete of Goldsmith, Texas; grandchildren, Jacob and Audrey Miller of Childress, Madison and Kalee Miller and Anthony Garrison of Odessa; life long friend, Sue (Carrick) Muzzy of Northfield; cousins, Raydell Hightower of Childress, and Mary Beth Wilson of Odessa; along with several other cousins, nieces and nephews.
