Obituary for Jerry Dugan

Jerry Selman Dugan, age 82, died Monday, August 26, 2013 in Fort Worth. Graveside Services will be at 10:30 AM Friday, August 30, 2013 in Childress Cemetery with Rev. Todd Rasberry officiating . Burial will be in Childress Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Johnson Funeral Home on Thursday evening , August 29, 2013 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM Dugan was born September 17, 1930 in Sand Springs, Oklahoma to Charles and Novelline Selman Dugan. He lived most of his life in Childress, where he graduated from Childress High School. He attended Texas A&M University and was a proud member of the Texas Aggie Band. He graduated from A&M as a Distinguished Student ad Distinguished Military Student. After serving in Korea as captain with the U.S. Army, he married his wife of 59 years, Dolores "Dory" Moorhead in El Paso, Texas. They moved to Shreveport, Louisiana where he was employed on an executive training program with Arkansas Fuel Oil. Dugan then opted to go into business with his father as a Phillips Petroleum jobber in Childress. While living in Childress he was active in many community activities. He served as President of the Childress Hospital Board of Directors, President of Childress Lions' Club as well as District 2T-1 Zone Chairman of the Organization. He was a director of the Childress First Federal Savings & Loan as well as First Bank & Trust. He also worked with Meals on Wheels and the Boy Scouts of America. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church where he was on the Board of Stewards and teacher of the Fellowship Sunday School Class. He had also been chairman of the Selective Service. After Dugan's retirement and the sale of his business, he and his wife moved to Ft. Worth where they resided at Trinity Terrace finding many friends among the residents and employees of the retirement community. He attended the Inquirers Class at the First United Methodist Chuch and found pleasure serving on committees at Trinity Terrace. After his family, to whom he was devoted, Texas A&M held a special place in is heart. Survivors: Wife - Dory Dugan, Fort Worth, TX; Two Sons - Mark Dugan , Fort. Worth, and Dr. Guy Dugan and wife, Karen, Chicago, IL; Six Grandchildren: Patrick, Shannon, Trevor, Sarah, Matthew, and Rachel.
