Obituary for Jean Walls
Jean Walls, age 86, formerly of Childress, passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 in Lubbock.
Graveside services will be at 10 AM on Monday, July 1, 2019 in Childress Cemetery with Rev. Alan Egerton officiating. Burial is under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 PM on Sunday, June 30, 2019 at Johnson Funeral Home.
Jean was born on January 23, 1933 in Crowell, Texas to Jesse Thomas Harris and Jessie Lee (Stout) Harris. She met and fell in love with Clarence Walls in the 3 rd grade, and they were together 70 years, 60 of which they were married. A hard worker, she worked as a toll investigator for Mountain Bell Telephone Company, and retired in 1988 after 35 years of working for them.
After the graduation of their daughter, she and Clarence travelled together for 19 years, which something they both loved to do. She also loved to help people, and she volunteered her time to help people learn to read, count, and with learning basic living skills. She also was heavily involved with the Pleasant View Baptist Church in Arizona where she was a member. She was well known in many circles for her Pecan Pies and Potato Salad. She was also a Phoenix West Life Member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
Above all else, she loved her children and grandchildren, and she took great joy in watching them grow, in their successes and achievements, and being a part of their lives.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clarence, in 2009; two children, Larry Walls and Linda Jarrel; sister, Betty Young; two brothers, James Harris and Jesse Thomas, Jr.; one grandchild, Jeannie Salyers; and one great-great-grandchild, Julianna Cherry.
Survivors include one son, Randy Walls and wife, JoAnn of Surprise, AZ; one daughter, Charlotte Selby of Silverton, TX; ten grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family and friends.
