Obituary for Jarvis Johnson

Funeral services for Jarvis Johnson, 66, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 8, 2022 at the Childress Church of Christ with Roger Weeks, Charlie Johnston and Dr. Craig Darter officiating. Burial will follow in Childress Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Friday, January 7, 2022 from 5-7 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home.
He passed away January 1, 2022 in Amarillo.
He was born March 15, 1955 to Felix Johnson and Ida Vera Burist Johnson in Childress. He attended J.J. Rhoads school through the fifth grade and after integration, graduated from Childress High School in 1973 where he played football for all four years and participated in One Act Play. He attended the University of Texas in Austin and Amarillo College. He worked in accounts payable at Coon Memorial Hospital and JBS Pork. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1974-77.
He was preceded in death by his parents, aunt Ethel Woodard, stepson David LeRhone Johnson, nephew Travis Johnson Jr., uncles Melvin Burist, Willie D. Burist, Equila Burist, Samp Burist, Jr., Curtis Johnson, E.J. Johnson; aunts Ethel Lee Woodard, Mae Hester, Burist Henderson, Maukine Burist Nealy, Ophelia Johnson Holmes, Ozie Lee Johnson Brown, and Herman Burist.
Survivors include his wife, Kealoha Charnell Johnson and children Jarvis Rojay Pettit, Tamisha Simon, Eliseo Paul Jacquez and wife, Deanna Tarango and Nalea Cancilla-Black; grandchildren Tia Simon, Eliana, Alicia and Antonio Jacquez, Makena, Lily, Joseph and Kristjan Black; great grandson Tayben Hayes; brother Travis Johnson; niece Kirston Johnson; and Eoles Burist, Sr., William T. Burist, Maxine Burist Mitchell, Verlene Burist, Wilma Jean Burist Hollis, Linda Louise Johnson Ford, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
