James Doyle "Jimmy" Ticer, age 79 of Childress, passed away on Monday, November 7, 2016 in Childress. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 10 at 3 PM at the Calvary Baptist Church with Dr. Craig Darter officiating. Burial will follow in Childress Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 9 from 5:30 to 6:30 PM at Johnson Funeral Home. Jimmy was born on August 9, 1937 in Childress to Claude and Gladys (Mitchell) Ticer. He was the youngest of eight children and grew up on a family farm north of town. Jimmy graduated from Childress High School in 1956 and soon found a career as an auto-body repairman, which he did for the majority of his life. In 1982, he went to work for Grillett Automotive, where he stayed until his retirement at the age of 68 in 2005. He had a love for restoring old cars and especially loved 1955 and 1956 Fords. Jimmy's biggest accomplishment in his life was his children, whom he loved deeply. From fishing and camping to taking them on adventures down the country roads where he grew up, Jimmy's life was centered around his children. In 1988, Jimmy became a grandfather for the first time and embraced his role as "Papa" to the grandchildren who loved him as much as he loved them. He was a friend to many and spent the last years of his life enjoying sitting out on his swing "watching the world go by" as he would say. He loved life and knew each day was a gift. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Shirley Ticer and Rita (Ticer) Mooney; three brothers, Jay, Cooter, Claude Carroll; and a great-granddaughter, Jazzlee Wilson. He is survived by his three sons, Kelvin Ticer and wife, Marsha of Childress, Parrish Ticer and wife, Elena of San Antonio, Tye Ticer of Childress; two daughters, Crystal Miller and husband, Bill of Madison, Ala., and Ginger Wilson and husband, Jeff of Childress; 12 grandchildren, Jessica Douglas of Childress, Chase Wilson of Childress, Dylan Ticer of Childress, Cody Smith and wife, Katylan of Lemoore, Calif., Sara Miller of Lawrence, Kan., Samuel Miller of Lubbock, Madie Wilson of Childress, Riley Ticer of Childress, Tate Wofford of Childress, Brody and Garrett Ticer of San Antonio, Brandee Salguero and husband, Paul of Clovis, NM; five great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Brody and Kynli Douglas of Childress, and Nicole and Gabriel Salguero; two brothers, Jerry of Plainview, and Bill of Oregon; two nieces, Billie Nell Ticer and Carolyn Baker, both of Chidress; and numerous friends. In lieu of flowers, you may make memorial donations to Childress Meals on Wheels.
