Obituary for James "Cornbread" Goff

Graveside services for James R. Goff, 77, will be held Saturday, November 21 at 10 a.m. at Childress Cemetery with Phillip Self officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
James R. Goff was born February 23, 1943 and raised in Tell, Texas by Tom and Ruby Goff. In true Cornbread fashion, he left this world on his own terms on November 15, 2020. The birth and death dates, however, are not nearly as relevant as all the days that he lived life to the fullest.
It would be impossible to put into words the life that Cornbread lived. Everyone that knew him, and some that didn’t, have stories and memories that will never be forgotten.
James served his country in the U.S. Army and upon discharge was a civilian flight instructor for the U.S. Air Force. Cornbread was a lifelong pilot and his love of the great blue sky was matched only by his love for his soulmate, Claudia, who preceded him in death.
Survivors include a son, Thad Goff and four daughters, Ronna Peretta, Raelene Tyler, Shay Arrellano and Angie Latta. He also leaves behind five grandchildren and his longtime golf partner and dear friend, Lolita Smotherman.
Cornbread had one hell of a ride and would want to remind those who knew him best that “the game starts on six.”
