Obituary for Howard Grimes

Howard Blaine Grimes, age 91, passed away on November 15, 2016 in Childress, Texas. Graveside services will be held at 4:00pm on Friday, November 18, 2016 in Carey Cemetery with Randy Wilson officiating. The family will be receiving friends and family for a time of remembrance and fellowship at Carey Baptist Church immediately following the graveside service (4:30pm). Howard was born on the family farm in Childress County on March 1, 1925 to Arthur Howard Grimes and Edith Heckathorn Grimes. He later married Willie Mareece Osborne Grimes on October 21, 1944. Shortly after marrying, he was deployed to Europe where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge. After the war was declared over, he remained in Germany to aid in its reconstruction. Upon returning from the war, he went to work for Shamrock McKee refinery plant until 1964. He then moved to Carey, Texas where he farmed for the rest of his life. He was also a member of The Carey Baptist Church. The last three years he was a resident of Childress Healthcare Center in Childress, Texas. Howard is survived by: Son – Robert Grimes and wife, Cheryl of Childress, TX Son – David Grimes and wife, Susan of Childress, TX Granddaughter – Deidra Winn and husband, Scott of Wylie, TX Granddaughter – Cathy Hampton and husband, Howard of Lawton, OK Great Grandchild – Blaine Winn of Wylie, TX Great Grandchild – Jack Winn of Wylie, TX Great Grandchild – Haley Hampton of Lawton, OK Great Grandchild – Hunter Hampton of Lawton, OK Brother – LeHoyt Grimes of Amarillo, TX Numerous Nieces, Nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Howard Grimes and Edith Grimes; wife, Willie Mareece Grimes; sister, Louise Blake; sister, Bobbie Jones; brother, Russell Grimes and a great granddaughter, Grace Winn.
