On August 4, 1950, she and Richard were married. They had two children, Mike Proffitt and Sharon Johnson.
Helen worked at Gibson Discount Center and Don’s Supermarket for many years. She would later go to work at Fox Clinic where she worked until retirement.
Helen had a great love for her family, especially those grandkids who lovingly called her “Nanny.”
She was a great seamstress and made a lot of Sharon’s and Mallorye’s clothes over the years. At one time she sewed for the public making wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses and men’s suits.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her mother-in-law and father-in-law. Also preceding her were her brothers Joe and Darrell Graham and an infant brother and sister.
Helen is survived by husband Richard of the home, son Mike Proffitt of Childress, daughter Sharon Johnson and husband, Larry, of Childress, grandsons Terrance Proffitt of Houston, Braden Proffitt of Amarillo, Zach Pierce and wife, Chrissy, of Childress and Landon Johnson and wife, Lauron, of Childress, granddaughters Mallorye Pierce of Childress and Larin Boles and husband, J, of Childress. She is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren, Tevyn, Brylie, Gunner, Garrett, Gavin, Laney, Cole, Casey, Maddi, Max and Rowan and brother and sister-in-law Jimmy and Ellen Graham.
Helen was a faithful member of the Church of Christ in Kirkland until it was relocated and renamed Fairview Church of Christ, then later Childress Church of Christ where she attended at the time of her death. She also taught Sunday school for many years.
She was a wonderful and loving wife, mother and grandmother and she will be missed so much.
We love you Nanny. You are now free and resting with Jesus and your family who have been patiently waiting on you.
