Hazel L. Hughes, age 88, was called home to be with our Savior on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 in Wellington, Texas. Services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, December 14, 2013 in St. John Baptist Church with Rev. Hank Swanson of First Church of God in Christ and Rev. R. H. Hamilton of New Hope Baptist Church officiating . Burial will be in Childress Cemetery. Hazel was born on June 30, 1925 to the late Florence and Willie Evans in Eureka, Texas. She was married to the late Mr. Curtis Hughes, Sr., and they were blessed with twelve children - four boys and eight girls. She was a wonderful mother to her twelve children and a dedicated woman of God as a missionary at her home church, First Church of God in Christ in Childress, Texas. Hazel "Big Momma" was a kind-hearted woman with a sense of humor that could uplift anyone's spirit that she was around. Her laughter was contagious and she made those around her feel like "family". She was a true representation of a wise and devoted woman who leaves behind a legacy of love and commitment to Christ and family. She loved her family dearly with all of her heart, but she loved God first and foremost, She lived her life for the Lord, working for Him and for His blessings in her family and was a faithful Christian until her death. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Curtis Hughes Sr.; one son, Billy "Frank" Hughes; four brothers, Willie Evans, Jr., Curly Evans, Jake Evans and Leemon Evans; and one sister, Eula Hughes. "Surely I have behaved and quieted myself, as a child that is weaned of his Mother: my soul is even as a weaned child." - Psalms 131:2.
