Harriett Sumpter, age 77, passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2016. Graveside services will be held at 10 AM on Friday, December 23, 2016 in Childress Cemetery with Ronnie Shoffner officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 PM on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Harriett was born on March 14, 1939 in Riley, Texas to Carl George and Estie Atress (Toland) Gressett. She enjoyed working for several years putting electronics together at NEC, but she loved being a homemaker for her family. She loved making all kinds of things for her kids and grandkids, and loved doing crafts. She was the peacemaker of her large family, and was the one everyone turned to patch and fix things, come up with solutions to situations or problems, and was the glue that held the family together. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Eddie; sisters Lucille Pitts, Tressa Holmes, and Doris Pryor; brothers J.R. Gressett and Charles Gressett; and a grandson Nathan Worley. Survivors include daughter Diana Ortega of Breckenridge, TX; daughter Darla Eubank and husband, Victor of North Richland Hills, TX; son Dwain Sumpter and wife, Roxanne of Wichita Falls, TX; daughter Lilly Harwell and husband, Benny of Childress; daughter Sharon Worley and husband, Randy of Paducah; daughter Mona Betzen of Amarillo; son Dennis Sumpter and wife, Sandra of Childress; daughter Sheryl Holmberg of Grapevine; two grandsons that lived with her and took care of her, Ty Moore and friend Shyloh and Dereck Moore, all of Childress, along with 18 other grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family and friends. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
