Obituary for Gayland Simpson

Gayland Lynn Simpson, age 73, of Midland, Texas passed away December 12th, at Midland Memorial Hospital of complications from heart surgery.
Graveside services will be held at the Northfield Cemetery at 10am on Monday, December 17, 2018 with Kerry Wood officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
There will be a visitation at the Johnson Funeral Home on Sunday, December 16 from 4-6pm.
Gayland was born August 27, 1945 in Childress, Texas. His parents were P.A. and Mollye Simpson. He attended elementary school in Northfield and graduated from Estelline High School. He graduated from West Texas State with a degree in geology.
Gayland married Jo Williams on September 28, 1968. He served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1970, spending a year in Vietnam. He started his Geology career in Midland, Texas working for Texaco, and worked for several other companies through the years before becoming an independent consultant.  He loved his work. He loved spending as much time as possible at his beloved ranch in Northfield, and enjoyed many family fishing trips to South Padre Island. This extraordinary man will be forever missed. His kindness and quiet generosity has impacted so many.
Gayland was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Billy Paul Simpson.
He is survived by his wife Jo; daughters, Melissa and husband, Chris McMillen, Susan and husband, Jason Dean, and Angie Simpson; and grandson, Fischer Davis.
